how exactly does the locking mechanism work? is it just the metal pin that goes between the blade when you open it? i am kinda leaning towards AXIS. but have never handled the AXIS. the only benchmade knife i will have is the mini infidel bk in about 2 weeks!

Read the review link that I posted and you'll see that the United States Army has put it through some severe tests and it passed

if that review doesn't sell ya nothing will

I'd also direct you to look at the 6150 Auto Mini-Rukus. It was my first Benchmade auto and I'm a real fan of it. (Axis-lock)It fires hard, it's got a great lock and a substantial blade. It's also got a low-slung clip (3/16" sticks out of your pocket), so I EDC it more often than any of my other autos.

That being said, I don't have an AFO II, so I can't compare the two.

I've never taken one apart. Never had one break either. They've got the button open, the axis and the OTF Infidel series. I've got 2 Axis openers and 4 button-type. 9050, 9500, 3350 x2. The Axis I have are some HK and the 6150. Don't think there's anything wrong with the button types, but I really can't speak highly enough of the Axis.
