Hey all,

I recently purchased an 890 Nitrous Assisted Open, and after about two days, there was serious blade play. I was pretty surprised, and honestly disappointed, as this was not what I expected from benchmade. In fact, it was so bad, I felt it unsafe to carry the knife.

I followed Benchmade's instructions, and sent the knife back, was without a knife for close to two weeks, and when i finally got it back, it looked good. That was around the beginning of last week, and I'm noticing the return of the blade play. Has anyone else noticed this? This is not what I expected at all, considering the pedigree of Benchmade and the fact that I was only using it as an EDC knife, nothing incredibly strenuous.

Thanks for your help,

GM

Iam surprized BM didnt put blue locktite on the pivot screw.
Unscrew pivot , put blue locktite on threads and tighten to your preference ......
Let it set up about 6 hours and you should be good to go and have no more problems.

I have not experienced the issues you have had with my 890. Blue loctite has helped several of my knives to keep the pivot screw from loosening up. Good luck!

Just make sure you get the "245" BLUE formula so you can break the bond if you need to. Also it's a good idea to swab the pivot bolt with rubbing alcohol to remove any oily residue so the bond takes. The stuff sets up fully after about 12 hours and there's plenty of time to find the "sweet spot" before that. You only need a drop or two, no more, on the threads.

I havnt had any problems with my 890. And if you dont have any locktite you can put a dab of clear finger nail polish on the screw. (May not be recommended by most, but it has always worked great for me.)

rocky, that's what is keeping the rear sight in place on my Springfield 1911. I'd say its pretty shock-resistant. I haven't used it since I invested in Loctite, but the clear fingernail polish is a very easy standby.
