for all you guys who have had success in making your auto strykers last a really long time ......did you store it opened or closed? which method causes less stress on the spring or is it irrelevant on an auto stryker? thanks again for answering all of my questions!

I store my autos closed.

some store them open, the biggest thing is anti corrosion... keep it free of body oils, and lubed up, and store it with dessicants. dry, well lubed, and in a place that not likely to be broken into or flooded.

Many keep them in thier pouches in thier boxes and in safes, usually with dessicants since they're cheap as heck.

what's the longest you have had an auto stryker without the spring breaking since you keep it closed?

pretty much all BM OTS autos are the same, some have larger coils, some have smaller coils. If you are very worried about the spring being coiled you can allways just remove the spring and store it seperately. kinda like ball bearings, heat up some all purpose grease, dump it in the grease and toss it in the freezer in an airtight container.

that's goin' overboard and I'm sure someone will stop by and say why Big Grin

but for maximum spring life a vacuum sealed container with anti-corrosion grease in a cool-cold place will make steel last longer.

other than that shelf life is pretty much indefinate as far as human life spans go.

Springs are what $1, free if you can send the knife into benchmade.

Also storing a auto open or closed makes no difference, the spring isnt going to magically break in half while closed.

Find something else to worry about.

LOL I'm not crying about it or losing any sleep but I have a friend (who doesntknow as much as you) but who too me that storing the Stryker closed might put more tension on the spring as opposed to leaving it open....

So since I spent 200 on this knife including shipping I just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing Smiler

But it seems everyone agrees it makes no difference to the longevity of the knife....

But I don't care if springs are free.... If someone tries to attack you (without a gun) you want to do everythingto make sure your knife is ready to go.... Know what I mean?

Jedi74 ......I dont blame you one bit for wantin to know , if there wasnt a previous post on this subject , I,d want to know myself.
Theres no harm in asking , thats how we learn , dont take offense by some of the peoples answers ........Iam sure they just get tired of answering the same questions over again.
On the bright side though , at least your getting a response .......... dj
