What's the best knife sharpening tool/system/technique for a knife that has the combination of both a regular and serrated blade?

I've been happy with the Spyderco 701 Profile rods (the set came with a fine and medium). A medium alone will suffice to get an edge for most cutting jobs.

I have also been using the Byrd "duckfoot" diamond sharpener thingy (look at one, its a "thingy"), too. As with most of these things, the resultant edge eventually gets finer,

Yeah, that is true. Many physically challenged people use EdgePro sharpeners. Smiler

I recommend people, especially beginners, learn the basics via hand sharpening. "Teach a man to fish..." and all that.

Hey guys,
I've been usinging a Lansky Diamond hone kit ie Xtra course, course, medium and fine for a little bit over 4 yrs.
My EDC was an CRKT M-16 Ti so AUS 8
then a Boker BG-42
and most recently last 6 months 14205.
Just added a few... HK nitrous Blitz, 610BK, 930, 615-2 and 615-2BK.
So I got to wondering if I am using the right stuff for the S30V steel. Lansky said Diamond hones are to agressive and the ceramic would be better. but since the kit aint cheap could i just add a saphire stone and call it quits.
whew....... So whatcha all think bout it? Confused

S30V is definately a tool steel, the closer to a polished edge you can have the better.

leaving any teeth on s30v is like using a 180 grit stone on 440C, it makes the blade dull earlier, and in s30v the (micro serrations) teeth break off causing dullness.

Ok thats some sound info Skimo.
Sounds like I might just want to add ??? A ceramic stone or two instead of the whole kit like the medium fine and the saphire finishing stone. Any otheres have offerings of knowledge & wisdom
