That's why I love Florida - you can open carry just about anything and concealed carry the same with a permit. The problem occurs when a person gets arrested. Even though the charge won't stick, the weapon is confiscated and can take a lot of time and effort to get back.

One of the local news channels here has a segment called Help me Howard. Mostly, the host of the show and his staff investigate complaints from citizens about unfair happenings in the local government. One episode was about a man who was mistakenly identified as a crime perpetrator. The cops busted in, took him and his firearms away, but didn't give them back, stating that they were legally confiscated during an investigation. The matter was resolved, but there was a pretty long time frame before he got his property back.

The whole thing reminded me of another round of B/S that happened at Hurlburt Field when I was still in the USAF. You can own a firearm if you live on base, but you have to store it at the base armory. This guy who was an Air Traffic Controller and formerly an SP had a killer Colt .45 Gold Cup went to pick up his pistol to go shoot some bowling pins, but his pistol wasn't there. Turns out somebody had checked it out that day to go out to the range and play with it himself. Promises were made about discipline being administered, but SP and LE take care of their own, both military and civil.
