Hello All.

I am new to the forum and have been reading a lot the past few days. I just purchased a handful of Benchmade knives (Onslaught, Single Edge Infidel, and a 943SBK).

I want to buy an assisted opening knife and have been toiling between the 790 and the 890. I like the Subrosa's monolock, and have read here the Torrent has some problems with the liner lock.

Is the Subrosa worth the extra coin? I'll probably end up with both, but which one would you all buy first? The Subrosa does have the bigger pocket clip which may or my not be a hinderance to catch on things.

Any opinions? I am also going to buy a 740 at the same time. I think I am starting a new addiction.

You are correct. This IS an addiction Smiler

I say, go with Subrosa. It's not just because of the lock, but materials used and convenience of carry. Then again, if you use your knife for longer cutting sessions Torrent could be a better fit for your needs because of it's thicker handle.

Welcome to the forum!

Yeah I think you are right about the Subrosa. It seems like I should stay away from 580 even though it would be a budget purchase...I'm reading there is a lot of spring breakage going on in that particular model.

I also remembered the Bedlam. I guess I gotta buy three knives in the coming weeks:

Subrosa, 740, Bedlam. ARGH!

Yep, you're in trouble! Wink

But you also have LOTS of company in this addiction. For the record, problems with the springs on the 580 Barrage have apparently been addressed, and the 890's a pretty good knife..I own or have owned both models.

In all of this, one of the next models I'd recommend would be the Axis-based 710D2, which is a fantastic knife that many consider to be be the flagship of the Benchmade line.

Try one, you might just like it, and Welcome!

I'm going to go with the 790. Something ultra cool about the titanium handles, and the Nitrous assist mechanism is the best of the best. I have been carrying an HK Nitrous Blitz for 2 and a half years now and it's still going strong.

The Blitz was the first BM model done in the Nitrous A/O mechanism and is very underrated. It's a really good knife.

OK now back to the 790/890 debate...Wink

I'm still on the fence about the 790s handle style, but it DOES have better materials. Of course, it costs more too...
