For customer service, Microtech is the polar opposite of Benchmade.

I've got a few Microtechs, but nothing made in the last 4 years. The ones I've got work fine, but I don't have any of their OTF's.

I prefer everything about Benchmades and I'm not saying that because we're on their company forum.

they have such a HUGE variety of otf knives compared to benchmade that it would be hard not to at least buy one. i wish bm would make some more, infidel is awesome but lets see some more.

The thing is benchmade likes to make really rock solid, reliable, durable knives... OTF's just aren't. It's just the nature of the mechanism... for now. I think that's why they don't make more of them.

However they are soooo cool. Smiler

I judge a company on the little things. I wrote to both Microtech and Benchmade asking about direct sales of auto knives to Military and Law Enforcement. I received an immediate response from Kathy Delaplain at Benchmade who went out of her way to help me.....A month later and no response or acknowledgement from Microtech! Guess who gets my business. How people run their business has a direct bearing on the quality of their product.

Deathofallthings You probably make a good point, they could at least come up with some more blade variations though right?

Benchmade's OTF's are adequate. Microtech's are art. I prefer Benchmade for side opening autos. Outside of the two mentioned, Protech makes a great auto too. Yea Microtech's customer service is ledgendary, and not in good way. However the Microtech Scarab maybe the best production OTF ever made...

I am interested in seeing how the new HK OTF works out.

Thanks mark, I can't wait to get one. If not a scarab, what others do you like?

The Ultratech, Executive Scarab, Combat Trodoon, and Halo V. The last is a single action OTF. The Scarab fires hard (dual springs)but I like the size of the Combat Trodoon. They have quit making the QD Scarab, the Executive Scarab is the only one you can find new (lacks skate tape inserts and comes in 154CM vs. S30V or S35-VN). The Scarab II should come out this year.
