Walking stick

Pepper spray

Small assisted knife? My pick is the same as Joe's. Great small stout knife. The Axis Assist is very nice. But I'd still want a big stick for dogs.

She can't, that's my concealed carry firearm. The suggestions about a firearm are well founded, but realistically our dog gets tangled up with whatever stray comes around and firing a shot becomes a dicey proposition.

I was also thinking of a stout walking stick made from some tight grained hardwood.

That would give her some reach and not pose the legal problems involved with self-defense with a gun.

Cheaper too!

+ whatever it's up to on a big, stout stick. Maybe even an old axe handle. Eeker

Seriously, your dog and the stray/wild dog are gonna get tangled up quick. I'd hate to be shooting or stabbing into that mess. On the other hand, a couple of good licks with a hickory axe handle might settle things down quick.

You can do a whole lot of damage with an axe handle if you turn it so you hit with the narrow leading edge. It is much more effective than a baton or a walking stick, but I think any of these ideas are better than a knife or a handgun. Distance is your friend in a dog fight.
