Why do you think balisongs aren't considered black class when they are clearly weapons?

No dude.

Anything can be a weapon if used as such.

I have to agree with Benchmade Nut here. Balisongs are just as much weapons as Grips or Benchmites. The Black Class isn't about weaponry. Rather, it's a group of tools intended for "extreme use", or whatever you want to call it (i.e., military, LEO, EMT...). Take the rescue hook series for example: a tool expressly designed for freeing people from seatbelts, tangled parachute cords, etc., etc., with very limited use as weapons.

Anyway, in my opinion, a balisong or any other knife only becomes a weapon when you use it as such. I personally only plan to use my knives (balisong, auto, manual, or any other) as tools, and wish that local laws would recognize that. It's when laws assume that, for instance, balisongs are "clearly weapons" that they get banned and we can't carry them anymore.

I see where the OP is going with this.. Butterfly/Bali knives are as illegal as automatics in most states and he is asking why are these not put in the black class like the autos. Great question I have asked myself this many times..

black class knives aren't only weapons, they're mil/leo/emt knives. they are service knives.

it's Benchmades classification, and putting balisongs in the black class doesn't make much sense to me.

Balisong knives are treated like the LEO & Auto stuff therefore I think It would make sense to be part of the black line, lets face it a aphid and Pika are considered weapons in the wrong hands..

that isn't thier intent though... its BMs classification that we're talking about, and it's seperate, besides there are black class knives that could be blue or red class... but they're not auto or too long.

Balisongs don't fit into BMs black class, it just so happens that black class has autos for the mil/leo/emt crowd.

I'm sure BM could make a black class balisong, I guarantee it wouldn't be a flipper, it would be to thick in the handles, and the blade would have to be thicker and wider as well.
