Received my new BM42 today and I have some questions.

1) What do I do about the squeaking?

2) How much play should there be with the handles.

They seem like they could be somewhat loose. They move way more than my 51. Should I tighten the screws? How do you know how tight they should be? What tool do I use?

Thanks in advance.

Congratulations on your new 42!

1) oil the pivots. I use benchmades blue lube. Others will come along shortly with their own recommendations but use something of quality.

2) handle play is necessary for the balisong to function properly (flip). I'm typing this from my iPhone but cutlery lover has a review of the 42 discussing this very topic. Go to YouTube and type "Benchmade 42" and his review should be the first one that comes up.

- also don't forget to loctite the pivot screws.

Enjoy!

I use pam for lube. Works great. You can also lube it with butter or the fat off a baby ox. Some people claim that lubing the 42 with oreo cookie filling works well, but I wouldn't suggest that because you'll then have to eat the other halves of the oreo without the filling.

The 42 is a temperamental beast, you should only adjust it with titanium tools. The only tools you can use are specially marked by Keebler elves. I prefer the ones marked by the Elf who goes by the handle "Snuffles". They usually come with cookies because he's a nice guy. There will be some play but that's about as natural as Ellen Degeneres underarms.

I use Benchmade blue lube cleaner to get factory debris out. I follow it by using gun oil or mil spec gun oil.

Next, I remove all torx screws and locktite them.

Great knife! The 43 is the best, though.

After that, get a Balibalistic. No other Balisong reaches perfection.
