I have a question for the "Old-Timers" aka The Experts.... I have a BM 47 prototype. It is obviously a 47, but below the butterfly logo, it is etched "42" Only 10 of these prototypes were made, and the blade is etched Prototype 6 of 10, June 2001. Does anyone know if this is a rarity, and if all 10 of the 47 prototypes were etched "42" instead of "47" ? This one is an OBVIOUS keeper, I just need to know if anyone has more info, and if so, what.. Thanks in advance Guys. This message has been edited. Last edited by: TONE8888,

I would say, yes, it is a rarity, even if the other protos are stamped in the same way. Like I said on another forum, it's possible that since these 10 are closer to being real protos than BMs usual proto runs, that they may not have bothered to change the stamp yet when they made these. On the other hand, a typo wouldn't be that surprising either. Either way, the fact that it is a 1 of 10 47 proto is what makes it rare. I don't think the typo or unchanged stamp would add that much to its value. It's not like were talking about a U.S. coin where errors can often mean significantly more value. BM protos command a little more that the production versions, but not a whole lot more like they do with other manufacturers. BM puts out so many pre-productions, first-productions, protos and numbered limited edition versions of the same knife that little variations like a number stamped differently doesn't seem to me that significant, or that it would add that much value. It would stil be neat to find out how the others were stamped though. BRING BACK THE CUSTOM SHOP

Maybe I'm wrong, but now, when I've seen the picture of Elishewitz ground Bali-Song Inc LE, I think the 47 is based on that design... ____________________________ Knock, knock. "Who's there?" "Me!" I have a 40T prototype that is also marked 42 on the blade. My guess is that it was before they decided on a model number.
