Anyone sent their Butterfly knife for warranty or lifesharp from California? Did you have any problems with them sending it back? I have something I need to send to them, but was wondering if it's an issue. Thanks.

I dont believe they,ll send the knife back to you. Ca. law prohibits that ....... so your screwd unless you find some one from a legal state to send it in for you...OR you can find a dealer here and ask them to send it in for you. they can do it but you cant ...... sucks ............dj -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Contempt Prior to Investigation - Dont knock it till you,ve tried it. 2 things first: 1) I am a newbie here ... and 2) I am NOT a lawyer ... Those things having been said, I have done quite a bit of reading on this particular set of laws ... and I can't find a reason why they shouldn't RETURN a knife to it's owner. The law(s) prohibit SELLING a butterfly knife in California [mail order is an uncertainty if the SELLER is outside of California, but if they are ... it would be hard for the State of California to enforce their laws on a resident of another state]. Another point is that the law(s) don't say anything about ownership in a collection ... only possession in a public place. I've talked to several LEO's and a couple of judges who have all agreed on this point. I'm sure that Benchmade has their policies [which are designed to protect them from lawsuits and such] ... but I'm not sure there's a real LEGAL basis for them not returning an item that has been sent to them for service. Are there any California based lawyers with EXPERIENCE in this area [or if not based here, experienced in this area of California law] ... ? Just some more grist from somebody in CA that needs to send a butterfly to Benchmade for repair ... Also ... could someone provide more detail on 'armegeddon store' in Cupertino ? Maybe I'm dense ... but that's almost local for me and I can't quite figure out who they are ... Thanks again for helping a newbie, -doc

Benchmade will not send an auto knife to you in Ca. ............Ive tried and ask BM. I had a broken Benchmite and thats what they told me .............. I sent the knife to a forum member in oregan and he got it fixed for me and sent it back to me. I was told to let your local dealer send it in for you. Armageddon is a good dealer in cuptertino , that I believe will help you out here. There located in the Valco village shopping center , you can look them up on the BM dealer locator , just use area code 95008 and 100 mile search. It should come up in Bold letters as a premium dealer ............ dj -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Contempt Prior to Investigation - Dont knock it till you,ve tried it. I’m very curious about this one myself. I’ve looked on the BM site and can’t find anything about their policy as to shipping Bali-songs (butterfly knives) to California. I’d like BM to chime in on this one so that we can have a clear understanding of their policy. Most of the internet dealers that I’ve looked at have a stated policy that they will not ship bali-songs to California.

Sharpenologist - The laws you're talking about, and the ones that you've read up on and asked lawyers/etc. about - are they the CA laws, or do they include federal laws on the subject? I've read up on the CA laws, and agree with your assessment that they only concern buying/selling, not simple ownership. However, I believe that federal law prohibits transportation of switchblades over state lines for commerce (with exceptions for military, etc.). And from what I've read, I was under the impression that "switchblades" include both autos and balis under federal law, and that their "commercial" transportation includes any use of services like UPS or the USPS, regardless of whether it's a sale or not. If so, shipping an auto or bali to or from BM would be illegal for any state (except OR, of course). In any case, as dj said, autos and balis can be serviced by BM if they're sent through a dealer. Or by driving up to Oregon City, dropping them off in person, and getting an excuse to visit the BM factory store...
