I just recently watched the movie Kick Ass and took a still pic from a scene from the movie of when the girl opens her pair of BM 42's she got for her birthday. So what is this black stuff plugging the holes? I assume these are just props?

Exactly. Those are 4x series balis with modified handles.

They're 42's, however, it does look like they did something to the handles (almost looks like scotch tape over the holes, but I honestly think that shot and when she uses them after this, are all CGI ). My opinion only, as I don't actually know.
