3 thoughts... First, this is a funny thread. Enjoyed reading. The Jedi plays his part well! 2nd, way cool to have BM wiegh in. After the quality products, troop support, and customer srvice I have rcvd over the years from BM, there is very little they could to do to loose my hearty support and loyalty. Now, if they were to back Obama for re-election, I'd sell out and become a full fledged ZT fan. Lastly, I really enjoyed making a bunch of extra money on my 4x balis after all the buzz about discontinuing the 42 came out. Don't worry, all porceeds are re-invested in more knives! .............................................................................................................................. "I don't understand why the 42 is so popular. Seriously, what's the deal." People want what they cant have. Plus the silly movie that came out a while back featured the knife. Made prices pop. Was happy to pick up a 2nd one NIB at a fair price when the short run was released. Have had one user for yrs. Now I have a NIB spare to keep or trade.  S90v Please...... | |||

Part of the reason may have to do with the current unavailability of the 42, but that's only a recent development - the 42 has been popular for a long time - lot longer than since the movie has come out. As a guy who has been into balisongs since the early 1980s, I can say with confidence that the Benchmade model 42 was the first really high quality production balisong knife made. For that reason, it is also the most popular. Notice that I didn't say it's "the best." I actually prefer the 51, and there are other balisongs made by other companies that are just as high quality. So, really, it's my opinion that the 42 is so popular because it's an icon among balisong knives. It represents a landmark in the development of the knife itself. So, why is it so popular today, as opposed to a fewmonths ago? Yeah, the movie has a lot to do with that, but why was it selected for the movie in the first place? Well, because it's the balisong of choice for those who manipulate balisongs, that's why. Look at it this way...if you're a guitar player, you'd love to get your hands on a '58 Les Paul. If you're a woodworker, you'd be envious of my all steel, no plastic, 1956 Porter-Cable circular and sabre saws. Why? well, they just don't make 'em like that anymore. DJ its ok if you're not athletically inclined and have no coordination But that's no reason not to like the balisong.... With hard work and dedication you too could learn some basic moves that will impress that mother-in-law of yours "I see you have constructed a new lightsaber." | |||
