Retiring my 42's for two reasons.

1) I was trying a y2k with my 42 last night and almost cut myself because I have allowed myself to get so used to my 51's light weight

2) I feel since I can't buy new 42's that they should be considered collectables now and not EDCed. I carry my 51 knowing I can buy more....

Why they are built to last just about forever.
Your not going to hurt it by using it unless you do something silly.

I have a PCC 30 that I have used for almost twenty years and it still looks great.

Yeah I understand that but it's hard to switch back and forth from the 42 to the 51 for flipping....

51 is great knife. I lost mine and now I really miss it Frowner Well, now I edc my 43MC no matter its value. While I'm enjoying flipping 43 sometimes I'm thinking that shifting into next gear with faster 51 would add some fun. Yeah, it was a lot of fun flipping it! It came to my mind just now Smiler

That I do understand some, I always forget how much stainless handles hurt to flip when you get used to Ti or other light weight stuff so it's kinda the same thing.

yeah and its amazing how the 51 makes the 42 seem heavy. i remember when i flipped a 42 after using a 45 for a few years how the 42 seemed so lightweight....i never thought it could get as light as the 51....

The prices for the 42 will mellow a bit in time. Consider there were a boatload of them made. Everyone was willing to pay top dollar for a new one when they were discontinued, however as a true collectible, there are just too many out there.

Same thing happened with the 806. When it was first discontinued it sold for close to $300 NIB, now prices have settled at a more reasonable level.
