hey guys i just bought a brand new out of the box model 42. I'm super excited but I'm just wondering, what would be a good price for one of this status? or at least in your opinion. and for future reference, what would be a good asking price for a 51.... just in case

I'm not sure if you will like the answer, but since BM is releasing that short run of 42's made of spare parts a good price is MSRP or lower. Once that run is sold out prices may (or may not) go up again, but until then it's $280 or lower.

Demand still exceeds supply for the 42s, so you shouldn't feel so bad if you paid 20-30% over MSRP, which seems to be the going premium. The small production run they just released quickly sold out and there is no indication of any large production runs on the horizon.
Just like anything in high demand and limited supply, like game consoles, or Randall knives for instance, you can wait and take a chance and pay less, or pay a small premium and get one now.

I'm glad I got mine back in 08 since they seem to be going for so much now. $180 but by the time I was ready to get a second I couldn't find them anywhere so I guess I'll just have to live with the one.
