Milled? Then why all the mentioning of the handles being cast, e.g. the reason for the sometimes found holes in the handles? |

I'm pretty sure all the titanium 40 series were cast. I think some of the early SS models may have been milled, but the ti are all cast. If someone can show me a source to prove me wrong I'm all ears, but that would be news to me. __________________________________ sha-clack-clack |

Few early Ti handled balis from the Custom Shop were milled. All production models are cast.

Sorry for the mis-information. I could of sworn I'd read that they were milled.

That was the big deal about the 42, the cast Ti handles. Casting is what allowed them to do the blind box end channels for the spring latch. The 42 handle was a milestone in detail for the Ti casting process. High reject rates were a problem during introduction.

The 42 vs 51 argument reminds me of the old revolver vs semi-auto discussion that LEOs of my acquaintance used to have. Often, the old school is loathe to change opinion in favor of the next generation.
I love my 42, I really do. And I still have it in my EDC rotation, and that will never change. But for flipping, the 51 has always been much more comfortable for me. It's lighter, much quieter and the beveled liners don't pinch the skin like the 42 does. Personally, I believe that if the 51 had come first, the old school would be complaining about how uncomfortable and noisy the 42 is. But we'll never know. ************************************************************************ Charter Member #9 and Skullmaster °„° Lum Lunatics Brotherhood of the 420 Boomerangs 'n Butterflies: An Osborne Alliance | General, and Member #950 Pardue Pimps® #3 Jack of all Trades, and Good Enough to get Paid for All of Them. ************************************************************************ "No time for the old 'in-out,' luv - I've just come to read the meter!" -Alexander DeLarge (Prisoner Number Six Double Five Three Two One) |

I noticed that. When I talked about my 42 I had to show it around because everyone wanted to play with a superhero knife; funny, but a bit embarrassing. _______________________________ A government should fear it's people not the other way around.
