I just recently purchased my bm51 and was curious how to clean and keep the blade/parts from rusting or corroding. Anyone who has any knowledge of good care/maintenance products could you please post some in depth reviews and how you cleaned your knife? (i'm a balisong noob btw ^_^ thnx!)

As for myself, I've been using and abusing my 51 for a half a year. I prefer to take it apart every once in a while for general cleaning of all parts. After that it looks like brand new. Anodizing is steadily wearing off where the latch cap is contacting liners. Apart from this there is nothing else to mention. I edc it almost every day. From time to time it is used to cut pickled cucumbers, lemons, salt cured fish and meat. So, pivot pins area accumulates remnants of food with grease and dust and usually remains dirty for some time, but after general cleaning no signs of corrosion have been noticed so far. ---------------------------------------------------- 42, 42SS, 42-400, 43, 43MC, 46MC, Balibalistic TAC-U, DR Venturi V82 Tanto I have two pets: a large main cat, and a small emergency backup one.

I don't use any of my 51's for cutting food so I always wipe the blade off with tuf cloth...., also I have loctited pivot screws and use tuf glide for lubrication that's all I do but then again I just use mint to scare granny who cuts me off on the highway..... Just joking lol "I see you have constructed a new lightsaber."

As Jedi pointed out, Tuf Cloth works great. It does leave a slight film on the blade. A major film if you use the marine variety. Have some Torx drivers to tighten things up from time to time. That is pretty much it, unless you are using it for food or work, there is not much to worry about. Unless you are really bad at flipping it, and you have to clean blood off the blade. ----------------- Current President Brotherhood of the 420 & Viceroy of the Knights of the Gravitator. For me it is: flip. cut self. wipe blood onto pants in stropping motion. flip more. Ron LaBella

I EDC my mayhem about 5 days a week. All I use is a little lube here and there. Loc-tite the pivot with the blue Medium strength stuff. And never had a problem. Mine is solely EDC not a real trickster. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lunatics I salute thee!! http://i248.photobucket.com/al.../M2HSSR/bdd5b559.jpg Boomerangs 'n Butterflies: An Osborne Alliance | Member #22

yeah i just went out and got some wd 40. read on some other flipping/blade forums that people used wd40 to lube the blade to prevent any rust or corrosion. i'm not really sold on buying a bottle of specialized lube from bm to put on knives when im pretty sure wd40 works just as well. i'm not all that knowledgeable, ne one disagree? yeah i also had to clean some blood off. nicked myself doing some flipping moves without paying attention. really scared to try aerials afraid the blade might just go straight through my hand if i catch it wrong. LOL people who EDC your balisongs, what state do you guys live in? california laws suck =(

WD40 is not a lubricant. It's a Water Displacement solution. Use RemOil instead, it's cheap and readily available. ____________________________ Knock, knock. "Who's there?" "Me!" "Me? No way it's me. I'm right here!" My Benchmades (updated) Benchmades That Used To Be Mine...

+1 WD-40 is great for banishing moisture, or even for cleaning out hard-to-reach places with the straw. For lubrication, however, a good, clean machine-type oil is best (for me.) Think "sewing machine oil." I still use 3-in-1 oil, but RemOil is great. Even the little plastic vial of oil that comes with electric beard trimmers is good stuff for lube. Some people prefer a "dry" lube, which they argue doesn't attract lint. But if you EDC your bali, and you're checking it out and cleaning it, say, weekly, it can't accumulate enough lint to make much difference, I'd say. Pick your poison, but WD-40 is not a good choice for lube. ************************************************************************ Charter Member #9 and Skullmaster °„° Lum Lunatics Brotherhood of the 420 Boomerangs 'n Butterflies: An Osborne Alliance | General, and Member #950 Pardue Pimps® #3 Jack of all Trades, and Good Enough to get Paid for All of Them. ************************************************************************ "No time for the old 'in-out,' luv - I've just come to read the meter!" -Alexander DeLarge (Prisoner Number Six Double Five Three Two One)
